When to Book Your Senior Portrait Session in Reno

High School Seniors: Book in the Fall

If you’re a high school senior, you’ll want to book your session in the early fall, ideally late summer through September. Why? Most Reno-area school yearbooks require your portrait to be submitted around October. That means if you wait until winter break to think about it, you’ve already missed the window. Fall also happens to be gorgeous around here, golden light, changing leaves, cooler temps, so your photos will look incredible anyway. Win-win.

Quick heads up though… most Reno-area schools work through an official yearbook vendor for formal portrait submissions, and some schools do allow private photographers with specific guidelines. If your school is one of them, here’s what to know:

The “Yearbook Rules” Cheat Sheet 📋

• Pose: Vertical, head-and-shoulders only. No hands or over-the-shoulder poses.
• Background: Plain and neutral. Outdoor backgrounds are sometimes a no-go for the formal yearbook section.
• File specs: High-res JPEG, 300 DPI
• Vibes only, no extras: No props, no hats, and school dress code applies.

Always check with your school directly to confirm their specific submission requirements before booking.
